The Yamhill Fire Protection District was established in 1948 by combining the City of Yamhill Fire Department and a Rural District Fire Department formed in 1949. Initially funded by local businesses and staffed by volunteers, it evolved through community fundraising and strategic purchases. In the 1980s, the departments formally merged, creating a single entity governed by an elected Board of Directors. Today, the District is well-equipped, blending volunteer and paid personnel to ensure effective community fire protection and emergency services.

Located in the northern part of Yamhill County, Oregon, the district spans 72 square miles of rural landscape. It includes the City of Yamhill, which houses the Yamhill-Carlton School District Office, Y-C High School, and Intermediate School. The Fire District is governed by five elected Fire Board Directors and staffed by a full-time paid Fire Chief/EMT, 28 volunteers, and a District Chaplain.
